A new partnership: GAIL's x Ocean Bottle

This month, we have launched our NFC smart chip impact platform in partnership with GAIL’s Bakery to stop even more plastic from entering our ocean. At three locations in London, GAIL’s will now be funding the collection of 20 ocean-bound plastic bottles for every hot drink purchased using an Ocean Bottle. All you need to do is scan the bottom of your bottle when paying for your coffee and the NFC chip technology fitted into the base of every Ocean Bottle will track your impact.

To celebrate this exciting partnership, we chatted to GAIL’s Co-Founder earlier in the week to get the inside scoop on GAIL’s - from sustainability to the best baked goods. Read on to find out more.

Why is sustainability important to GAIL’s?

Sustainability reflects the way we think about the world as craft bakers - respectful of what we use and mindful of processes and quality.

The food supply chain is a vital link to the health of all of us, but we need to be reminded that it is a natural system - complex and resilient and at its best when left mostly alone.

Why are GAIL’s excited to be supporting the first-of-its- kind impact platform?

I love the enthusiasm of the team and their commitment to getting people engaged a little every day to solve a big problem. Any teacher/coach would say - best to do a little every day than one big occasional push.   Good things happen when we give them consistent attention and focus.  Nature teaches us those little things matter.

Favourite thing about the ocean?

I love its energy and vastness.  I grew up in Florida and I always had the sense that the ocean was wrapping its arms around my family.

Favourite destination to get up and enjoy a coffee (other than GAIL’s of course!)

My kitchen table with a good book early on a Sunday morning.

Finally… if you could only eat one thing at GAIL’s for the rest of your life what would it be?

Our spinach feta roll always makes me smile.

If reading this makes you want to get down to a GAIL’s, head down to one of their bakeries in West London (Kings Road, Fulham & High Street Kensington), where until October you can make an extra bit of impact every time you purchase a coffee using your OB. And if you’re not based in London, don’t worry - there will be many more opportunities to make an impact using your Ocean Bottle in the near future. Stay tuned on our social channels @oceanbottle to find out more.
